When a project that you have been working on for years (and quite possibly your whole life) is finally completed, it is time to celebrate!
And so it was that on Thursday October 13, 2011 a unique and special event transpired to bring together people in the Your Life, Unlimited community and commemorate this occasion.
When panning the event I knew I wanted it to be different from your usual book launch – a book launch and at book store seemed so ... well normal. Been there, done that. This book is different and this event had to be different, and be somewhere different. And so it was that When Enlightening Strikes was launched at a funeral home. Yes, a funeral home. Really and truly!
Why, you ask, would I choose a funeral home? First, it was an absolutely beautiful venue, very elegant and classy. And second, because I thought what better place to talk about a book that is about living life better now than at a place which makes you realize you won’t be here forever.
About 125 people came to help me launch my new book and the energy in the overly packed room was so amazing. People where happy, excited, laughing and meeting new people.
My dear friend Gloria Nixon put herself in charge of food and it was spectacular. She had a chocolate fountain with loads of fresh fruit generously supplied by Vic’s Fruit Market, she made cookies in the shape of light bulbs (to match the cover of my book) and put inspiring words on each one (who would think of that – brilliant!). Chocolatier Constance Popp donated a huge plate of artisan chocolates and my sweet Goddaughter Amy Schrader baked mini-pumpkin cupcakes for the group. It was sweeeet all around.
Vic and Paul Scarnati, my talented brothers entertained us with their musical talents for the first part of the evening – until the crowd sort of overtook their playing area. Well, too many people to help celebrate is a good problem to have!
Lorraine Baydack, my sister, was the MC for the night and kept the audience on track with what was transpiring. John Hindle gave a heartfelt introduction and then I spoke with the audience for 15 minutes or so. The essence of my talk was about how we need to celebrate our accomplishment (I encouraged everyone there to think of this evening as a celebration of what they had achieved this past year) , we need support from others to fulfill our potential and we need to start leaning into our passion now and not wait for a better time, or circumstances to be altered.
NOW, is the time to start – to even take the first little step.
We were so excited to be able to support two worthwhile causes that evening. One, Special Olympics – which a portion of the proceeds from books sold that evening going to them and two, our El Salvador Project . My daughter Kara Staples sold jewerly which we buy from El Salvador and then sell as ‘take what your heart desires – pay what your heart desires.’ The final results yielded over $600 in donations for these two causes - not bad for 2 hours!
We are honoured to be able to contribute. I am so excited that the book is already doing great things!
All in all, it was a fabulous night and I was so bless to be able to share it with so many supporters.
Now it’s your turn, what have you been working on? What is it time to celebrate? Do it – you deserve it and you never know how what you do will inspire others!

Go for it!
